The Cultural Compass, an object from the Internet of Things, is a new kind of connected device. This school project, conducted in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs France, helps you pick the right book, movie or album in a store. The Cultural Compass achieves that task just by asking your friends. Provided by the store, it acts as a scanning device connected with your personal store account card. The account, linked with your social networks, allows the Cultural Compass to gather opinion and rate data from your friends and display it to you. Our concept is based on the expansion of social cultural networks and apps and the importance of our friends’ opinion on cultural purchases. With the Cultural Compass stores could shift from flagship contemplative experience to active in-store exploration. It could create a new purchasing experience.
